A Year with Frog and Toad

Posted by Picasa

On Friday, I took K to see one of our favorite musicals - A Year with Frog and Toad. It is a delightful show that weaves together the classic Frog and Toad stories with upbeat, jazzy music. K has long since outgrown the books, but we both love this musical! It is just a lovely story of friendship, with quite a bit of comedy thrown in. It's also amazing to watch because it has just 5 actors! The main characters are Frog and Toad, of course. Then 3 other actors play birds, a snail, 2 moles, a turtle, a mouse, and a lizard.

If you ever have the chance to see this show, you really should! The audience at our show was mostly adults, and they all enjoyed it as much as K did! At the very least, the soundtrack is worth having.

Here is a YouTube clip of Frog and Toad from the Tonys:

This weekend we traveled to the state capitol for a skating competition. K skated twice - once with the little team, and once with a group from the junior team. The little team had no competitors, so they automatically won :-) They skated as little pirates and were very cute. One of the spectators laughed at the idea of "synchronized pirates." lol

6 girls from the junior team skated to Neil Sedaka's "Calendar Girls." Each girl represented two months. K was January and February. She peeked out from behind a giant calendar and carried a pink heart-shaped candy box to represent Valentine's Day. The girls skated against a group from the home rink and still won! It was very exciting.

I posted video of the pirates here, and of the Calendar Girls here.

My in-laws live up that way, so we spent the night at their house. K managed to invite herself to spend the week with her grandparents, so dh and I drove home alone! It is the first time K has spent more than one night away from home, but she is very excited to have this special time with her grandparents this week! K and her Nana have begun building a dollhouse, and K hopes to work on it a lot this week.

I miss her already!

Back from Vacation

We are now back from a week in Southern California. We visited some dear friends who live there, including Z and Cher Mere from Gray's Academy!

I posted a lot of photos to my Flickr page, but here are a few highlights from the trip:

In front of K's favorite new ride, California Screamin in Disney's California Adventure. It was the biggest roller coaster K has ever been on, and she declared it "Awesome!"

K in the High School Musical Pep Rally, also at California Adventure.

Pirates Z and K, plotting their route to treasure at the Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer's Island.

Oh no! Z and K have been captured!

Pirates no more, Z and K float through Storybook Land, with the Matterhorn in the background.

We also went to Legoland, where K posed with Harry Potter.

Lastly, we visited American Girl Place with Z and Cher Mere (and Kit!)

Kaya got a badly needed hairdo, Jess got some accessories, and we all had lunch at the cafe. I loved the tiny cinnamon rolls, burgers, and hot dogs, and that the dolls got their own chairs and teacups. Too cute!

We had a great vacation, but we are exhausted! I think we will need to recover for a few days :-)
